The 2018 edition of the Nigeria Technology and Innovation Expo tagged Techno Expo 2018 formally came to an end today, 9th March 2018 with awards presentation for best Research and Development Projects in varying categories to deserving secondary schools, research institutes, technology entreprenuers and JETS. In attendance was the special guest of honour, Honourable Yakubu Dogara Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Communications, Permanent Secretaries, Director-Generals of FMST agencies and other invited guests.

The Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, in his closing remarks thanked all inventors, innovators, investors, researchers, entrepreneurs for their achievements in the past five days adding that through the works of their hands and the power of imagination, they have indeed shown that Nigeria is the home of the rising sun. He once again assured the gathering of the current adminstration’s committment to harnessing the potentials of science, technology and innovation as an important instrument that will move Nigeria away from being a resource based to a knowledge based, innovation driven economy.

Dr Onu announced that the Ministry will continue to build on the achievements of this Expo, adding that the event will be brought closer to the people in the six geo-political zones of the country. On this premise, it is proposed that beginning from next year, the South East geo-political zone will host the Expo at a venue to be determined later. It will then move from one geo political zone to another.

He thanked everyone for coming urging them to hold firm to the Dream, while remembering these words: “the labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain. The future of our dear country is very bright. To achieve it, is a task. It is a challenge. It is a responsibility”. With these final words, he formally closed the 2018 edition of the Technology and Innovation Expo.
